I am into hockey and I’m a Minnesota Wild fan. I recently learned that the Wild was not the first Minnesota NHL team. I wanted to learn what happened to the previous hockey team and how the Wild was created. I have learned about the North Stars and the sad departure that Minnesota felt.
I used many different online resources for my research. I went to the official NHL Wild website. There I got the 2000 Wild schedule, franchise approval information, and player information that I used to back up my sources. I used Mnopedia for North Star history and for when they left Minnesota. I also used Wikipedia and the Star Tribune for information on the North Stars, the Wild beginning and understanding a brief history of the Xcel Energy Center.
Working on this project I learned many new skills. I learned how to cite sources and make a bibliography. I now understand how to use the word count setting. I also learned how to use HTML to build the website. I discovered that time management and expectation tracking are essential skills for working on projects.
My topic relates to frontiers in history because the Minnesota North Stars were one of the first hockey teams to be created in the 1966 NHL expansion. When they left their fans were devastated by the loss. The Minnesota Wild helped the state of hockey regain its’ title. My topic is important to Minnesota for two reasons because Minnesota lost the North Stars and gained the Wild.
